| Chapter Advising is Crucial |
Each Official Chapter of K-grams has a continuous
relationship and support from a local Key
Partner. This partner provides support in terms of financial
and leadership resources, but most importantly also lends at least
one adult Advisor to assist the student leadership team.
Who serves as an Advisor?
K-grams Advisors typically come from the faculty, staff, or administration
of the sponsoring college in a K-grams partnership. They serve
as a year-to-year foundation for students to rely on for continuity
in their programs. Furthermore, having an adult member based at
the college allows for the elementary community to have a reliable
contact over a long period of time as well.
What are the primary roles of an Advisor?
An Advisor - and in broader context, the Key Partner - is a crucial
element to the success of K-grams. Because K-grams deals with
such a wide array of audiences, it is important that each chapter
has a solid base and a non-student contact person every year.
Also, Advisors typically lend a hand in looking over the budgets
and providing leadership development programs for the local chapter.
It is up to the students and Key Partner to determine the extent
of the Advisor(s) involvement with the Chapter. With the help
of the Regional Liaisons
during the Starter
School period, most colleges develop a great relationship
with their Advisor. Chapter Advisors also have the option to explore
professional and other opportunities throughout our K-grams networks.
How do I become a Chapter Advisor?
There are three primary ways to become an advisor for a K-grams.
If a Key Partner has already been established, it is up to them
to select an Advisor from their department. Second, if you are
an interested community or college member, you can volunteer your
servies directly to an established K-grams, or submit your information
to our Local Network
and we will attempt to place you with a Starter School. Finally,
students often seek out and select Advisors who can help them
further the mission of K-grams.
